Tata Motors is only a month away from taking the covers off, their most anticipated and at this moment in talks amongst enthusiasts, due to its recent teasers getting viral on the internet EV, the Curvv Coupe SUV, which will be launched alongside its ICE sibling. “MG-JSM-Auto” is said to be working on a rival of Tata’s upcoming compact SUV, which is slated to arrive later this festive season. As per the sources, MG Motor’s answer to Tata is likely to be a CUV.
A CUV, or Crossover Utility Vehicle is a segment, that blends the comfort along with handling of a car with the higher seating position, cargo capacity on a rugged look of an SUV. Built on a unibody frame, CUVs are lighter and more fuel efficient than traditional body-on-frame SUVs. They offer a smoother, car like driving experience, supporting a higher ground clearance. A CUV often comes with all-wheel-drive (AWD) for tackling some mid-level off-roading. CUVs are practical with hatchback styled tailgates, for hustle-free loading and unloading of luggage.
MG-JSM-Auto is expected to place this upcoming SUV between the Comet and ZS SUV, holding a price tag similar to under Rs 20.0 lakh (ex-showroom) SUVs. The upcoming MG EV is most-likely to boast, ZS SUV shared 50.3 kwh battery pack, with a better range, compared to the ZS SUV, which is due to its lighter weight, claiming an enhanced range to 461 km (ARAI) on a single charge. Besides, the MG’S CUV is expected to draw power from same front axle-mounted electric motor, capable of delivering the power output of176 hp and peak torque of upto 280 Nm.
Netizens claim, MG calls this upcoming EV an “Intelligent CUV” who’s overall design signifies a tall stance with a coupe-like roof alongside large wheels. The spotted test mule of the production-spec e-CUV, had the dashboard section covered, which reveals not much about the interior layout and so the features, although this car is confirmed to be tech-loaded, looking at other MG cars on sale. In FY24, the brand witnessed a commendable sales figure with about 39% growth between the phase of H1 to H2, recording a 35% contribution of EVs in MG-JSM-Auto, rising graph. Will it be the upcoming electrified CUV be the MG Cloud! Well, that remains a mystery.
