Expanding the current line-up, Chinese Auto Giant Build Your Dreams (BYD) primarily known for producing EVs, introduced a compact-SUV Atto 3 in their Indian portfolio, around 2022, which at the moment was launched with a sole top-end variant.
But in today’s date, looking at the diversifying competition and changing market preferences, the brand recently ended up adding, two new trims with the model. This decision comes after a thorough evaluation of large-section of Indian auto market, which caters the budget conscious consumership.
The integration of new variants, have led BYD to undergo a price cut of approximately Rs 9.0 lakh, with the revamped starting price now going Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom). But this reduction of cost, comes at a stake. New trims included to the line-up, names Dynamic and Premium. The Dynamic places as the base-spec trim, highlighting some feature cuts as lack of a powered tailgate and adaptive LED headlights, fewer speakers and single-colour ambient lighting.

This entry-level variant, holding an introductory price tag of Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom) also features a power source difference, where other two variants continue drawing power from a bigger battery pack, the Dynamic packs a low-range 49.92 kwh battery pack, which delivers a range of 468 km (ARAI) on a single charge. This battery pack, compared to the mid-spec and top-end variant, charges from a 70 kw DC charger.
Moving to the Premium, which counts as the mid-spec variant does not endorse much feature cuts, therefore with an introductory price tag of Rs 29.85 lakh (ex-showroom) this trim incorporates, only one differentiating factor; adaptive LED headlights. Barring, the Premium sources power from a 60.48 kwh battery pack, generating the range figures of 521 Km (ARAI) on a single charge. This battery pack utilizes an 80 kw DC charger.
The re-introduced top-end trim, for the starters name Superior gets a price hike, with the jigged introductory price of Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and so the feature additions, which accounts for the safety net comprising, a set of seven airbags (standard for all variants), an electronic stability program (ESP), hill descent control, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a 360 degree bird view camera, ISOFIX child-seat anchorages and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).

The Verdict:
In our opinion it was a commendable move by BYD introducing two new versions of the Atto 3 in India to help make EVs more affordable, in line with government goals. By offering a base and mid-range option at lower prices, they aim to attract different customer needs and budget-friendly buyers. This move meets market demands, promotes sustainability, and is set to boost BYD’s sales. Despite Indo-China border tensions, this shows BYD’s dedication to the Indian market and its effort to push electric vehicle adoption forward.
