An era of Coupe SUVs awaits, as Tata Motors teases it’s most anticipated EV, the Curvv Coupe hinting towards a nearby launch. Based on its ICE counterpart, which is also to arrive with or later the Curvv EV, possibly holding the name Azura, so that both the models share a distinct identity. Though the debate around nameplates is constant, looking at both the versions of the Tata’s coupe to debut in the production-spec. A really close to production prototype of the Curvv ICE, most likely sharing the trademarked name Azura, was showcased in Bharat Global Expo 2024.
The Curvv EV and it’s showcased close to production version, shares a lot of things in common, similar to the concept of sub-compact SUV Nexon and Nexon.ev , where apart from design and styling, architecture and technology has been shared. However, with the Curvv EV the technology and design or styling, will be alike but not the architecture. The upcoming electric coupe SUV, shares it’s underpinning with the Tata Punch.ev, being engineered on newly developed Tata’s Gen-2 EV architecture, acti.ev platform.
As the teasers don’t reveal much about what’s on offer with the Curvv EV, we uncover on the possibilities, exploring whether it drives the way ahead in comparison to its rivalry in the Indian auto-market.
Design:
Sharing dimensions on paper both the Curvv EV and its ICE coupe version, measures 4308 mm in length, incorporating a width of 1810 mm and heighting upto 1630 mm. The design and styling cues of the Curvv EV are highly inspired by its ICE counterpart, hoisting a parametric 3D pattern silhouette finished in grey, which houses a connected series of multifunctional day-time- running (DRL), working as a sequential LED turn indicator also.
These DRL equips matrix functionality for welcome and goodbye gesture.
The lower end of the aerodynamic bumper has a placement for the auto- focus dual bi-projector LED headlights, accompanied by pair of LED fog-lamps beneath, optioning a cornering function.
Moving sideways, the gates hold the electronic pop-up door handles.
The tail section, resembles from a sportback styling though it is a coupe, with a slanting roof and elongated boot part. This area ends a thick connected bar of LED taillamp, which continues the matrix functionality for welcome and goodbye gesture. The roof mounts a shark fin antenna in black. alongwith a running-flat alloy framed 17-18 inch alloy wheels.
Features:
The interiors of the Curvv EV accounts a similarlity to most of recently upgraded Tata cars in both ICE and EV. As for reference, a cabin’s layout alike, the Nexon.ev or the Barrier Facelift could set the standards. For starters, an exact portrayal of the dashboard setup which was on the showcase in Bharat Global Expo, 2024 could be carried-forward, hoisting a split digital cockpit, with a 10.25-inch fully-digital instrument cluster and a 12.0-inch Arcade OTT supported all- touch sensitive floating infotainment screen, holding a bunch of features such as, wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple Car-Play alongside iRA connected car technology, enabling voice commanded operations.
Highlighting a mixture of practicality and futuristic advanced technology, the HVAC Panel for dual-zone climate control boasts both physical and touch sensitive switches. The driver’s section sports a multifunctional three-spoke steering wheel, attached to paddle-shifters. Following the Nexon.ev the gear- selector is operated by a jewel rotatory dial, also signifying the three driving modes- eco,city and sports.
Adding convenience to the cabin a wireless charging pad, keyless ignition and electronically adjusted ventilated, driver and co-passenger’s seat is expected to be on offer. Amplifying the sound experience on-the-go, Harman Kardon sounded eight speaker system plays a major role.
Affirming, convenient rides the rear- passengers are provided with an option of air-con vents with self-operated blower controls.
Parting away obstructions between your eyesight and scenery, the panoramic sunroof not only makes your inner-space airy but also enhances the beautiful journey experiences, holding a significance in itself.
As confirmed by Tata officials, availability of ADAS will lead the safety standards of the Curvv EV. Other highlights adding value to this package counts a 360 degree bird view camera, blind spot monitoring and 6 Airbags. It is unclear whether the electronic tail gate will be on offer.
Powertrain:
The details are not disclosed yet, although it is expected to feature V2L Technology, allowing the car’s battery to power external appliances. Compared to to the Nexon.ev a bigger battery pack with dual motor setup, directing towards comeback of All- Wheel (AWD) drivetrains into Tata cars. A regen braking system, tackling the range anxiety will have a place. There will be a fast DC charging option as well. As the car is yet to arrive, there is no data available for its range and performance figures.
As the Tata Motors have started to advertise the Curvv EV with the teasers, the launch date is near coming months in 2024.
