As a a surprisingly move, Jaguar delists its sole EV, I-Pace, followed by the discontinuation of F-Type in June. This leaves Jaguar with only one model, F-Pace SUV in India. F-Type Sportscar’s production has also concluded globally. Hence, these discontinuations are been considered crucial, looking forward to coming wave of Jaguar EVs in 2025.
Being the Jaguar’s first and only electric car in India, the I-Pace was the second luxury electric SUV launched in its category around 2021. Under the price tag of Rs 1.0 Cr, it competed with the German Marvels, Audi e-tron and Mercedes EQC SUV. However, unlike its competitors, the I-Pace did not receive any updates in the last three years it was on sale here.
While it is still available in international markets, it will be discontinued soon as Jaguar prepares to introduce new electric line-up globally from 2025. The Jaguar could only manage to maintain a sales figure of 31 units of the I-Pace in FY24. This is significantly lower than the segment leader BMW iX’s tally of 738 units. This Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) D7e underpinned compact luxury electric SUV, drew power from a 90kWh battery pack and dual electric motors, generating a power output of 400hp and peak torque of 696 Nm.
With this powertrain, the I-Pace, which was offered in single variant HSE,
managed to deliver a combined range of 410 km on a single charge, driving on city as well as highways. I-Pace’s discontinuation shares a major drawback in the interior, which did not accommodate a spacious cabin, leading to uncomfortable experience, compared to the rivals.
This was not it, a lot of basic equipment was only available as an optional pack, at a hefty price tag.
As for Jaguar F-Type, it was introduced in India in July 2013 as a convertible, initially offering V6 and V8 engines. The coupe version debuted about a year later and a more affordable 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, became available in 2018. The model received a mid-life facelift in 2020.
