DEVi: On the 28th of September 2025. Delhi recorded a major achievement in green transport with the introduction of 300 new electric buses. This addition greatly increases the city’s green efforts towards reducing pollution and encouraging eco-friendly urban transportation. CM Rekha Gupta flagged off the new buses from the East Vinod Nagar Bus Depot. Announcing a bold target: the entire public bus fleet in Delhi will switch to electric vehicles by the end of 2026. This means within just over a year, Delhi aims to have a fully electric city bus network.
Improved Connectivity and Route Rationalization
The new buses run on routes re-engineered following a comprehensive study by IIT Delhi. Route rationalization is intended to:
- Offer improved connectivity to the Yamuna area
- Facilitate seamless last-mile connectivity for public transport commuters
- Service 625+ bus stops along 21 widened routes
This strategic action provides efficient and convenient transit through important areas of trans-Yamuna and border regions. Addressing passenger needs and operational efficiency.
Features of the New Electric DEVi Buses
The 300 DEVi buses are equipped with comforts promoting commuter safety and comfort:
- All-weather comfort from air conditioning
- Panic buttons and live video surveillance for safety
- Wheelchair ramps
- Pink seats designated for women commuters
- Contactless and auto-pay facilities
All of these are in line with the government’s vision for offering secure, inclusive, and stress-free transport.
DEVi: Infrastructure Boost Alongside Fleet Expansion
The launch of the bus was accompanied by the government. Opening a six-lane flyover between Gagan Cinema and Nand Nagri. This infrastructural expansion, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 180 crore. Holds the promise of easier flow of traffic for the over 100,000 daily commuters in North East Delhi.

The project forms a part of the Delhi government’s overall vision to curb pollution significantly with green transport solutions. The Chief Minister reaffirmed her intention of creating a “Viksit Delhi.” By embracing clean technologies and having zero-emission public transport with affordable and efficient travel. Presently, with this inauguration, the Delhi Transport Corporation’s fleet strength of electric buses has reached 974 buses. Which reflects quick progress towards green urban mobility.
