London Buses Goes Electric: A Step For Greener Transport?

London is introducing a fleet of advanced Volvo BZL Electric London Buses. Marking a major shift towards cleaner, greener transport across the city. The decision comes in line with London’s own ambitious environmental objectives. Represents an important step in cutting vehicle emissions.

Go-Ahead’s Landmark Order of Volvo Electric London Buses

At the beginning of 2025, Go-Ahead, the largest bus operator in London. The city took delivery of 25 Volvo BZL Electric single-deck buses to TfL specification. The electric buses will be in service within a year, sporting London’s traditional red livery of bus designs used since the 1930s.

Top Features of the Volvo BZL Electric London Buses

Size & Capacity: With a length of 9.7 meters, these single-deckers are designed to fit London’s inner-city streets.
Power & Range: With four traction batteries with an aggregate capacity of 376 kWh. They have sufficient energy storage for routes every day.
Regenerative Braking: It recovers energy while braking, improving the overall efficiency of the bus.
Charging System: Buses will be charged overnight by CCS 2 cables. 150 kW DC chargers at the depots to ensure every day is ready.

London Buses: Improving Safety with Advanced Emergency Braking

These electric buses also introduce a sophisticated City Brake AEB (Advanced Emergency Braking) system. This safety feature is designed specifically for city use, and it complements Mayor Sadiq Khan’s Vision. Zero policy of ending road fatalities by 2041 and specifically achieving zero fatalities from buses by 2030.
