In an ambitious move towards green public transportation. Chartered Speed and EKA Mobility collaborated to introduce a combined 1,135 EV busses in India. The induction is part of the Government of India’s Pradhan Mantri (PM) e-Bus Sewa Scheme. To promote environmentally friendly and efficient city mobility solutions across the country. The decision was announced on August 19, 2025, marking a revolutionary move towards electric vehicle integration in public transportation.
EV Busses: Expanding Reach Across States
The collaboration first obtained a Letter of Confirmation of Quantity (LOCQ) for 900 buses. Since then it has grown to cover 235 more buses, increasing the number to 1,135 e-buses. Chartered Speed is responsible for the procurement, operation, and maintenance of 235 buses. In states such as Madhya Pradesh (110 buses), Odisha (60), Chhattisgarh (35), and Meghalaya (30). The extensive deployment is spread across seven states and union territories, such as Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Impact on Urban Transport and Employment
Collectively, these electric buses will carry more than 360,000 passengers a day, greatly mitigating urban pollution and congestion challenges. Apart from environmental advantages, the project will create over 2,500 new employment opportunities, boosting local economies as well as green technology skill development.
Sanyam Gandhi, Whole-Time Director at Chartered Speed, underscored the significance of this achievement. “Our partnership with EKA Mobility under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme reflects our commitment. To redefine city mobility by way of clean, efficient, and inclusive transportation solutions. This achievement will help improve mobility networks along with making a significant contribution to India’s green energy targets.”
