Campbell, Calif., Dec. 18, 2024 – ChargePoint, the world’s largest EV charging company. They have entered into an agreement with General Motors (GM). To deploy hundreds of V2X Charger Tech, a high-speed EV charging stations across the United States. The ambitious agreement is aim at meeting the rising demand for affordable and efficient charging infrastructure. The chargers are anticipated to be ready by the end of 2025.
Main Features of the New V2X Charger Tech
The new ChargePoint chargers are for residential, commercial, and fleet use. They have a number of industry-first features:
- More Rapid Charging: With a North American maximum output of 19.2 kW (80 amps). European maximum output of 22 kW (32 amps). These chargers can recharge a typical EV completely in only four hours. About half as quickly as traditional Level 2 chargers.
- Bidirectional Charging: The chargers are V2X technology enabled. Which allows EVs to serve as sources of energy for homes, buildings, or even the grid. This capability provides users with the ability to save excess energy and redistribute it.
- Dynamic Load Balancing: This feature provides optimal use of energy. By automatically balancing charging speeds in response to real-time power requirements. In a connected building or home.
- Smart Home Integration: Chargers can be seamlessly integrated. With home batteries, solar panels, and smart energy management systems. For an efficient energy setup.
- Series-Wiring Capability: The chargers are built considering multi-EV homes and depots of fleet vehicles. Supporting multiple units drawing power from one another without expensive electrical upgrades.
- Omni Port Technology: The chargers have interchangeable connectors that are SAE J1772. Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) compatible. Allowing for compatibility in all EV models.
V2X Charger Tech: Strategic Deployment
ChargePoint and GM intend to place these chargers strategically on main routes and cities. Making them as accessible as possible for drivers. Third-party operators ownership and management of charging infrastructure. Incentives is also part of the initiative, further speeding up network growth.
