A giant leap towards greener transport, the Telangana government has rolled out its EV policy formally. They are looking at spurring adoption of electric mobility across the State. The new policy was announced on November 15, 2024, to help enhance commitment by the State to cutting down carbon emission and ensuring clean air for all its citizens.
Key Features of the New EV Policy
Financial Incentives for Consumers
One of the most attractive features of the policy is financial incentives to the buyers of electric vehicles. Subsidies for two-wheelers of ₹20,000 and ₹1.5 lakh for four-wheelers. Huge financial support would push electric vehicles closer to a considerable section of society.
Charging Infrastructure Expansion
The Telangana government is well aware that charging infrastructure is critical to the widespread adoption of EVs. They are committed to establishing a needed network of charging stations across urban and rural regions.
Support for Local Manufacturing
The policy aims to boost the local economy and employment as it encourages factories to set up in Telangana. The government will give investment opportunities to companies in EVs and their parts by supporting a tax-free scheme. This will make Telangana a hub for India’s production of EVs.
Tax Exemptions
The policy will also give electric vehicles exemption in road tax and registration fees. Hopefully, it would attract even more consumers to swap to electric alternatives.
Sustainability Goals
The new EV policy is in step with the broader environmental goals of Telangana, for instance aggressive cuts in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
K.T. Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development said that the same would provide Telangana a new dimension pertaining to changing transportation.
“Our new EV policy is not about electric vehicles; it’s about giving it a sustainable future for our children. We at Telangana are committed to offering clean energy and sustainable transport for all of us.”
ELCTRIK Speaks
Telangana’s new Electric Vehicle policy represents a bold step toward a greener future, fusing consumer incentives with strong infrastructure development. The state’s efforts to change this landscape will have a larger impact on whole of India. The coming years will prove to be crucial as stakeholders seek realization through such a vision of a cleaner, more sustainable transportation system.
