- Fleet Growth: The new EV buses will replace approximately 5,000 old CNG buses. Most of which have become unreliable as they break down regularly.
- Existing EV Bus Fleet: Delhi currently has 2,002 electric buses. This addition will bring the fleet near the government’s ambitious goal of 8,000 EV buses.
- Vehicle Types: The fleet shall consist of both 12-meter and 9-meter buses. Which shall be tailored to match different passenger needs for different routes.
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh reiterated the importance of shifting towards cleaner energy forms. “This launch is an integral part of our efforts in making Delhi’s public transport a reliable and greener one. We are also improving depot facilities so that smooth functioning is there.”
The government has been striving hard to establish charging stations at bus depots all over the city. This ensures that the new fleet becomes operational completely without any logistical issues.
